About Course
Description:
Bharatanatyam Theory is a six-chapter series designed to help dancers understand the ideas that shape the form beyond steps, choreography and performance.
The course explores Bharatanatyam as a living language—one expressed through the body, hands, rhythm, abhinaya, storytelling, memory and tradition.
Across the series, Dr. Sujatha Mohan examines questions such as:
- How does the body communicate meaning?
- How do hastas function as a language?
- What is the difference between emotion and rasa?
- What makes rhythm more than simply keeping count?
- Why does a story in Bharatanatyam carry meaning beyond its plot?
- How is tradition passed from one generation of dancers to another?
The aim is to help learners connect theory with lived dance practice, so that concepts are not understood only as definitions but recognised within movement, repertoire and performance.
